Among the countless number of lighting fixtures there are special lamps with table mounts. Their advantage is compactness, stability and stylish design. Learn more about the table lamp and mounting technique in this article.

Table Lamp with Table Mounting Technique

Each table mount lamp is equipped with a tripod, a clamp and a holder for one or more lighting elements. Some models are equipped with a suction cup, clothespin, or bracket that can be used to attach the device to the wall.
As for the lamps with a clamp, they consist of several assemblies - a clamping screw and a bracket. Given the design features of such a device, it will be possible to fix the clamp only on a shelf or the edge of the table surface.

Thanks to the strong fixation of the lamp shade can be adjusted and moved in any direction. This prevents any damage to the fixing element. When it comes to the reliability of fixings, it is better to give preference to models with a clamp and clothespin. The lights under consideration are easier to install, it does not take much effort to fix them to the table. It is enough to press the latch, and the spring will fix the position.

Useful! There are several variants of lampshades, but the most common are in the form of a trimmed cone.

Advantages and disadvantages of table lamps

The peculiarity of a lamp for tables with a clamp is the stability and strong fixation. In addition, the light fixture does not need to be mounted on top of the table. If necessary, it can be placed anywhere and in any position. The main thing is that the bracket allows you to adjust the position to different lengths. This approach will allow you to place the device next to the table, but without taking up space on its surface.

Other advantages include:

  • The sturdiness and stability of the design. For example, clamp-operated lamps are virtually impossible to knock off the table;
  • compactness, thanks to which the lamp takes up little space;
  • Adjustment of the lamp position in any direction;
  • the ability to install the lampshade in any area of the table with flexible adjustment of the lighting.

There are also a number of disadvantages:

  • when the lamp is rigidly mounted, it cannot be moved to another point;
  • most table-top devices can only be installed on the edge of the surface;
  • if the lamp is extended to its full length, the load on the supporting structure increases;
  • The power cord should be kept as close to the table as possible at all times. Otherwise it can be damaged.

What design options are found

There are several types of lighting devices, which differ in design features:

  1. The clothespin. One of the most reliable connections, with which you can attach the lamp to the table. The principle of operation is simple. You need to press the spring, then the mechanism fixes the lamp on the edge of the table. The element is characterized by its light weight and small dimensions.

  2. Clamp. The most effective option, providing a reliable grip of the lamp with the table. The appearance of the node resembles an old meat grinder.
  3. Bracket. Another reliable method of mounting, with which the lamp can be mounted on the wall. This approach will save workspace, but you will need a tool to hang the light fixture.
  4. Suction cup. Such a mount is used by few manufacturers, because suction cups are characterized by weak resistance to stress. In addition, it is better to use such a fastener only on lacquered surfaces.

Ways of fixing and installing the lamp

There are several options on how to install a table lamp:

  • The classic way. The luminaire is installed in any area of the table by its own support;
  • Wall mounting. Luminaires are mounted on the wall next to the table;
  • Mounting on a shelf. If necessary, it is possible to attach it to any point of the shelf. The main thing is to have enough cord length;
  • Installation on the edge of the table. A lamp with a clamp is provided for this purpose.

The last three options are equipped with clamps or panels for attaching to any surface with screws. As for the classic method, in this case, the light fixtures have their own stands without necessarily being fixed in a specific area of the table.

Installing the light fixture on the table does not take much time and effort. To begin with, you will need to position the clamp on the surface, and then fix it with a screw or screw. Do not forget that each fastening element has its own threshold of strength, so with great effort the grip can crack. Another thing to consider is that nowadays a lot of Asian products are sold, characterized by low-quality assembly.

How to choose a lamp with a table mount

What to look for - the main criteria

  1. Quality and tube material. It is recommended to give preference to models that are equipped with flexible tubes. This allows you to turn the lamp in any direction. Also in such models, the wires can be hidden under the clamp;
  2. Comfort level. It is much more pleasant to use a lamp that can be raised and set at any height. It is also convenient if the lamp moves from one point of the surface to another. Such lamps are able to adjust to the work area of the table and provide effective lighting at any time of day;
  3. Mobility. The lamp should have sufficient mobility, even if equipped with a rigid clamp. This will allow you to move the lamp shade anywhere on the table without moving the light fixture itself;
  4. Type of tripod. There are designs with several sections, with which you can change the position of the lighting element. If necessary, the fixed device can be tilted to any side, while the brightness of the light remains the same.

How to install it so as not to spoil the table

After purchasing the light fixture, it must be properly installed on the table without being mechanically deformed. Installation instructions will depend entirely on the type of design.

Mounting sequence

You can attach a table lamp to any table as follows:

  1. Select a place on the table to mount the lamp.
  2. Unpack the lamp and place it on a flat surface.
  3. Unfasten the screw fasteners.
  4. Fasten both parts of the screw clamp parallel to each other - one on top of the table and the other on the bottom.
  5. Press and hold the lamp with one hand and screw the screws together with the other.
  6. Insert the lighting element into the lampshade.
  7. Move the lampshade and set the direction of the light.
  8. Connect the table lamp to the mains.

Conclusion

Successful selection and installation of the lamp depends on its design features. For installation on a normal table surface, it is better to buy a light fixture with a clamp. This is the best value for money.

    All mounting methods are quite convenient and reliable: I've used each of them in one way or another. For me personally, I prefer the clamp, I think it is the most secure. The lamp is firmly fixed to the table, doesn't wobble, doesn't fall off and it's very comfortable to use.
